While quartz watches require less maintenance than a mechanical counterpart,  battery powered watches also require servicing.  As a rule of thumb,  every fourth battery change it is advisable that the movement receives an overhaul to keep it well maintained.

If your quartz watch is experiencing a fault, that has not been rectified by replacing the battery, a full overhaul of the movement is necessary.

Overhauling a quartz watch involves completely disassembling the movement, down to the last screw. All of the mechanical components are then cleaned in a specialised cleaning machine that removes all traces of the expired lubrication and fouling.

Every single component is then meticulously scrutinised under magnification and any components that no longer meet the manufacturer’s specification are replaced with new parts. The circuit board is tested with specialised diagnostic equipment, and where a circuit is deemed to have a fault, it is replaced with a new one.

The movement is then rebuilt by hand, piece by piece, by watchmakers that know the calibre intimately. Highly specific lubricants are applied to all of the friction points, it is not uncommon for 3-4  different grades of lubricants to be used in modern quartz movements.

A new cell is then fitted.

Upon completion, the case of the watch is resealed, all of the gaskets that keep your watch sealed against dirt and moisture are inspected, cleaned and lubricated with any worn/damaged gaskets being replaced. To confirm water resistance, the watch is subjected to a two part vacuum and pressure test.

The watch will then be tested for up to 7 days where  the watch is monitored for accurate timekeeping and correct function of the date and other complications.

Whilst the movement is being serviced, many of our clients choose to have the case and bracelet refurbished/polished, so that when the overhaul is complete their watch is not only functioning like new, but looking like it did when it left the factory.
